Description

Developed by Curtiss to compete in air races in the 1920s, the R3C proved to be a trophy-winning biplane in both its land- and sea-based versions. In 1925, the famous soon-to-be raider Jimmy Doolittle won the Schneider Trophy in a seaplane race over Chesapeake Bay. He also set a world seaplane speed record the next day, and the aircraft took the Schneider trophy again the following year, at the hands of pilot Christian Frank Schilt.

This speedster is reproduced here in its seaplane variant, the R3C-2, as flown by Jimmy Doolittle. Its U.S. Army Air Service paint scheme is reproduced here in fantastic detail, finishing a hand-crafted model that is sure to be a prized possession of any enthusiast.
