The Lockheed L-10 Electra was introduced in 1935 as a competitor to similar Boeing and Douglas transport aircraft. Nearly 150 were built in the years leading up to World War II, and the aircraft served in a variety of military and non-military duties, including as a testbed for pressurized cabins. But the Electra's primary claim to fame revolves around the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, in that she was flying a highly modified L-10 when she vanished. This association makes the L-10 a particularly recognizable aircraft, and painstaking work was taken to ensure that this model of the popular aircraft will make it a showcase item.
