P-38 Marge (Bong) Nose Art Panel

Known as America's Ace of Aces, Richard Bong flew his beloved P-38 with a natural talent that won him 40 victories over the course of his military career. Many pilots that flew with him commented on the mastery he had over his aircraft. Bong was awarded the Medal of Honor by General MacArthur and married his sweetheart Marge Vattendahl five days later. Not a year later, he died on a routine test flight of a P-80 jet when it crashed on "The day they dropped the bomb on Hiroshima."
