Although the SB2C Helldiver was the most successful dive bomber of the War, it was not a favorite. Its poor handling and stability tested the pilots to their limits, but a lot of damage was inflicted on the enemy with this plane. The "Big-Tailed Beast," as its not-always-affectionate crewmen called it, eventually proved to be a formidable and highly versatile weapon. It delivered bombs and depth charges with pinpoint accuracy and could strafe with cannon, rocket and machine gun fire.
