The Albatross was designed to meet a Navy requirement for a utility aircraft that could operate from land, water, and with skis, from snow and ice. Primarily used as a rescue aircraft, the Albatross saw action in the Korean War and rescued over 1,000 UN personnel from costal waters and rivers- often behind enemy lines.
