Description

America’s own Ace of Aces was Eddie Rickenbacker, who boasted 26 career aerial victories. This wooden SPAD XIII is a model of the plane he flew to fame in World War I, featuring US Army squadron decorations and camouflage. Designed by the Societe Pour L’Aviation et ses Derives, commonly known as SPAD, this French aircraft entered service in May 1917. This model captures all of the detail of the prototype, including struts, wires, and a wood propeller. The wood frame is joined by hand, and is covered by canvas fabric.
Look close at this model and you will see how stalwart of a warrior the original was. The SPAD XIII has bigger wings, a larger rudder, and a more powerful engine than its predecessors. The sides of this plane are decorated with American markings, including an Uncle Sam top hat. Let your eye take in all the details of the engine, cockpit, and painted decorations.
Order today and delight in the storied career of Eddie Rickenbacker and this part of American aviation history. Some assembly is required.
