The P-61, nicknamed the Black Widow, was the first production U.S. military plane designed with radar in mind. Despite tough design parameters and a lengthy design process, the P-61 was able to enter World War II in 1944, where it operated in every theatre, though it only saw significant combat in the European and Pacific theatres, where it performed quite well, despite some difficulties and performance inferiority compared to newer Axis aircraft. The P-61 was replaced as a night fighter before it saw combat in the Korean War, but the Black Widow did find itself useful in civilian and experimental service for several years after its military retirement.
This historic aircraft is reproduced here in the P-61B variant, the most widely used version. An exquisitely detailed finish and quality handcrafted construction make this model a fine choice for any collector or enthusiast.
