The KC-97, an early mid-air refueling aircraft for the U.S. Air Force, was originally developed off of the C-97, which was itself produced from the B-29 bomber. This involved design process meant that the KC-97 also retained a significant transport role on its upper deck, whilst the fuel it carried was stored on a lower deck. Despite a slower speed than most of the aircraft it refueled, the KC-97 Stratotanker was a very useful aircraft with a 28 year service length, the last airframes being replaced by much more modern, jet-propelled KC-135s in 1978.
The KC-97 is reproduced here in its most common G variant, and painted in U.S. Air Force colors. Superb attention to detail and a hand-painted finish make this model a superb choice for any aviation enthusiast or collector.
