While the concept of mid-air refueling has existed since the 1920s, it wasn't until the Cold War that the idea really caught on. Nations needed to keep bombers on constant standby, so being able to keep aircraft aloft indefinitely (mechanically speaking) was a significant advantage, and so an aerial tanker was developed to meet U.S. needs. Modified off of the C-135, the KC-135 is America's primary mid-air refueler, and has been since 1957.
Recreated here is the original KC-135 A variant, in use since 1957. Few A variants are still flying, having been upgraded to more modern versions with new engines and equipment, so great care has been taken to ensure that this model resembles the original aircraft as closely as possible. Superb handcrafted construction and a high-quality finish make this model a prime choice for any collector or enthusiast.
