Developed for the U.S. Coast Guard's short-range recovery role, the HH-65 Dolphin was introduced to the Coast Guard helicopter fleet in 1985, and since then more than a hundred aircraft have been put into service. Search and rescue is the Dolphin's primary mission, though it finds itself performing a variety of roles, from drug interdiction and homeland security patrol to ice breaking and emergency cargo deployment.
Although the Dolphin had some teething problems when it was first introduced, it has proven a very capable aircraft thanks to a variety of technological advancements, including an autopilot that can fly search patterns on its own. The Dolphin typically operates from shore bases, but it can also work from Coast Guard cutters and polar icebreakers.
The Dolphin is rendered here in a high quality model, finished with an extremely detailed U.S. Coast Guard orange paint scheme. This superb replica is a prime choice for any aviation enthusiast or collector.
