The F/A-18 Hornet is one of the most modern fighters in widespread, worldwide use. The Hornet was introduced into operational service in 1983, and slowly replaced the Navy's A-6s Intruders and F-14 Tomcats over the course of the 1980s and 90s. F/A-18s have seen action with the U.S. Navy in both Iraq conflicts and several other operations worldwide, as well as limited engagements with the Royal Australian Air Force.
This particular model represents the F/A-18E Super Hornet, the single-seat version of an extensively redesigned F/A-18 that has replaced the F-14 in the U.S. Navy and the F-111 in the Royal Australian Air Force. Solid construction and a detailed finish make this model a must-have for any collector.
