The F4U Corsair, designed by Chance Vought, has the longest production run of any U.S. piston engine fighter in history (1942-1952). More than 12,000 were produced over the 10-year span, and the aircraft was used by many nations. The Corsair first saw combat service as a fighter in World War II, and was regarded as one of the most formidable Allied naval fighters. Towards the end of World War II, the Corsair developed into the role of a fighter-bomber, and it continued in this role during the Korean War. The Corsair was also built for many other Allied nations during the war, and the last few aircraft to roll off the lines were built for France in 1952.

The variant reproduced here is a U.S. Marine Corps nightfighter, a version of the Corsair equipped with a radar unit that allows the aircraft to effectively find enemy targets at night. Exacting detail and a handcrafted construction will make this model a prime piece in any collection.
