The F-105 Thunderchief is the largest single-engine fighter ever employed by American Forces. The Thunderchief was a single-seat, jet-engine fighter capable of greater payloads than World War II heavy bombers. Thanks to its high payload and supersonic abilities, the Thunderchief was the primary bomber for American forces during the early parts of the Vietnam conflict, flying over 20,000 sorties throughout the duration of the conflict. The Thunderchief was important in many ways besides its original purpose, including the demonstration of gun capabilities in jet-engine warfare and later specialized variants suppressing surface-to-air missile defense systems of the North Vietnamese. The model reconstructed here in detail represents the F-105D, the primary construction model, and collectors will prize its quality craftsmanship.
