The E-4, a militarized variant of the Boeing 747, was developed and deployed during the Cold War to serve as a National Emergency Airborne Command Post (NEACP), and one is always kept on alert status 24 hours a day, ready to take off at a moment's notice. The E-4 was to serve as the command center for the President, or any successors, in the event of a nuclear attack, or any other form of serious attack. As the Cold War came to a close, the role of the E-4 transitioned from a less evacuation-based mission to one of airborne command in any emergency, including natural disasters. While the E-4 is no longer the president's prime mover, the secretary of defense still utilizes the aircraft whenever he or she leaves the country. This uniquely important aircraft is precisely reconstructed here, with a detailed finish that any collector will prize.
