The Douglas C-47 Skytrain is the iconic transport aircraft for World War II, and perhaps the most famous propeller driven transport of all time. The C-47 is a military modification of the Douglas DC-3, and it was used in every theatre of World War II. The Skytrain served in a variety of roles, transporting solid cargo to parachute infantry, and there were even a few variants modified to serve as gunships, much like the modern AC-130. The C-47 held pivotal roles on multiple occasions, carrying paratroopers over France on D-Day, re-supplying Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, and bringing supplies to Berlin during the early parts of the Berlin Airlift.

This particular aircraft is painted to represent a C-47 paratroop ferry as used during the D-Day operations, and its precise detailing and superb construction make this model a prime choice for anyone looking to start or add to a collection.

This handcarved mahogany Douglas C-47 “D-Day Invasion” Model has been signed and numbered on its base by two members of the “Band of Brothers”. Forrest Guth was an original member of the third platoon serving as a Sergeant. Buck Compton was awarded a Silver Star while serving as a 2nd Lieutenant commanding the second platoon, earning him a promotion to 1st Lieutenant. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity with matching number.
