The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was among the largest aircraft of World War II. It saw limited service during that war, being introduced in mid-1944. It was, however, the primary heavy bomber in the Pacific from its introduction until the end of the war, after two B-29s dropped the first atomic bombs, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The B-29 continued to see combat after World War II, still being the primary heavy bomber during the Korean War. An upgraded variant, termed the B-50 Superfortress, continued to see use in auxiliary roles until 1960, when it was replaced by newer jet-powered aircraft.
This particular B-29 is modeled after the Enola Gay, the aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb during an assault on Hiroshima, August 6, 1945, and the model is signed by two members of the flight crew who participated in that mission: Captain Theodore Van Kirk and 2nd. Lieutenant Morris Richard Jeppson.
