Only three Martin M-130s were ever built, but they would prove to be substantially important aircraft. Dubbed the China Clipper, Philippine Clipper and Hawaii Clipper, the three M-130s formed the basis of Pan America Airline's international fleet of flying boats. The China Clipper also had the distinction of flying the first trans-pacific airmail flight. All three planes were eventually lost: The Hawaii Clipper disappeared in 1938, the Philippine Clipper crashed near San Francisco in 1943 after surviving the Japanese assault on Wake Island, and the China Clipper crashed in 1945 at Port of Spain, Trinidad. While rare, these aircraft were pioneers in the early days of aviation, and this high-quality model of the famed China Clipper will serve as a centerpiece in any collection.
