The DC-7 was introduced in 1953, built by Douglas after American Airlines requested a long-range airliner for its use. The DC-7 was very successful in its day, pioneering a number of new long-distance flights for various operators, but it was rather quickly overshadowed by newer jet-powered aircraft in the passenger travel market. Douglas developed a conversion package for DC-7 variants to turn them into airborne freighters, which extended their service life significantly.
The DC-7 model presented here is a DC-7C variant, rendered in the livery of Pan American World Airways. With fine detailing and high-quality hardwood construction, this model is sure to remain a cherished part of any collection for years.
