Originally built in 1925, the Ford Trimotor is one of the most iconic early American aircraft ever produced. While the Trimotor itself was technically a success, the Ford Company did not actually make a profit in the aviation sector, though the aviation sector certainly profited from the credibility that Ford's proven reputation provided.
More than 100 airlines around the world operated Ford Trimotors, and the U.S. military utilized the craft heavily during the 1920s. The Trimotor was heavily involved in the pioneering days of aviation history, being involved in a number of historic acts including the first trans-polar flight, the first use of an aircraft in a U.S. presidential campaign, and being the tanker in the first mid-air refueling.
The historic Ford Trimotor is modeled here in its 5-AT variant, in the livery of American Airlines. Tremendous attention to detail and superb construction make this model a must-have for any aviation enthusiast.
